Ping adalah waktu yang dibutuhkan paket data untuk sampai ke Server dari Client, hal ini akan menyebabkan Lag, yaitu saat dimana suatu action yang diharapkan terlambat hasilnya, hal yang dikenal juga sebagai Delay

Misalnya, saat bermain DotA, setelah kamu klik kanan di suatu terrain, Hero DotA kamu baru mulai bergerak 2 detik kemudian, ini berarti paket data yang kamu kirimkan ke Host (yang mengcreate room Dota), membutuhkan waktu 2 detik untuk sampai dan diproses sehingga menimbulkan perbedaan waktu tersebut.
